Dr. Sophia Bakogianni graduated from the Department of History and Archaeology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and has a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Art History from the same Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She also has a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Cultural Organizations Management from the Hellenic Open University and a Master degree (M.Ed.) in Education from the Hellenic Open University. She holds a PhD in Social Information Systems from the Open University of Cyprus. Her PhD dissertation, entitled “Understanding Museum Social Media Experiences”, investigates the use of museum social media and the overall experience of them, using elements from museum studies, computer–mediated studies and communication theories.
Dr. Sophia Bakogianni is an archaeologist – art historian at the Dirctorate of Modern Cultural Heritage of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. Currently, she is seconded to the National Centre for Public Administration and Local Government in Greece, where she works as a Scientific Personnel at the Institute of Training. She worked as an archaeologist-art historian at the Byzantine and Christian Museum in Athens. She has also worked as a researcher in EU projects and she has presented the results of her research in these projects in international and Greek conferences.
Currently, she is a postdoc researcher at the Department of Communication, Media and Culture at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. The subject of her postdoc study is the evaluation of Users’ XR experiences in virtual cultural environments, supervised by Assistant Prof. Dr. Kostas Karpouzis.
